9Civita di Bagnoregio, Lazio

Perched dramatically on a hilltop and connected to the outside world by a pedestrian bridge, Civita di Bagnoregio appears almost suspended in time. Often called “the dying town” because of erosion affecting the surrounding cliffs, it remains one of Italy’s most captivating destinations.

Stone houses, medieval archways, and flower-filled squares create a dreamlike setting. With very few permanent residents, the village feels wonderfully peaceful and untouched.
