8Castelmezzano

Hidden in the rugged mountains of southern Italy, Castelmezzano is one of the most dramatic villages in the country. Built directly into the Dolomite rock formations of Basilicata, it looks like it has been carved from the mountains themselves.

The town is famous for its adventurous “Volo dell’Angelo” (Angel’s Flight), a zipline that connects Castelmezzano with nearby Pietrapertosa. Beyond adventure, visitors enjoy peaceful streets, stone archways, and breathtaking mountain sunsets.
